Weekly Update - Week of February 9th, 2025

Dear Families,

We were glad to see everyone back after the week-long weather! We are excited for things coming up this month and looking forward to a Fabulous February!

 Weapons Detectors at Heritage Elementary

River Valley Elementary Buildings (Heritage and Liberty) will begin using weapons detection systems at our main entry points for the morning arrival. This will begin March 9-11 and continue for the duration of the school year.

Weather Updates

Weather delays and cancellations can be found on the following sources along with our ParentSquare and phone alerts.

Calamity days (any days missed due to inclement conditions) will be considered online days for the duration of the year. On these days, students will be required to complete online work. Classroom Teachers will be utilizing Google Classroom for students to complete their online assignments. See the document below for additional details.

Here are some highlights for you to consider:

• Assignments will be posted by 11am on the designated online learning days

• Teachers will be AVAILABLE between 11:00am - 12:30pm and 1:00pm - 2:30pm to answer potential questions or support. This can take the form of Google Meet, Email, and/or ParentSquare. 

• Students have until 11:59pm of the designated day to complete assignments. If students do not have internet at home, please communicate that with their respective teacher and will document accordingly. Students who do not complete the assignments will be considered absent for the day.

• Should weather create outages to Internet please document if students/parents reach out in those regards and can plan accordingly similar to students without internet (2 days upon return to complete work). Please contact your teacher or the front office if this occurs. 

Recess

Please remember as the temperatures fluctuate, our teachers try their best to go outside for recess as much as possible. As long as the REAL FEEL TEMPERATURE is at or above 20° F, teachers will attempt to go out. Be sure students are wearing adequate coats, gloves and hats whenever possible. 

During the winter months, we do try and take advantage when we get a substantial snowfall and coordinate sledding activities. These will come from your grade level/teacher teams to help allow everyone time to plan and have additional sledding attire. 

Yearbook Orders

Students will be coming home with order forms for yearbooks. Some people might have ordered at the same time as pictures, and this would provide an additional chance to order. We only have a VERY LIMITED amount to purchase at the end of the year, so please be sure to order them ahead of time!

River Valley Baseball for Youth Sign-ups

River Valley Baseball for Youth is gearing up for another great season! Registrations are available online, or two in-person dates. This registration is for the River Valley teams hosted in the Marion County Recreational League. The final day to register is Saturday, February 28th.

Grade Levels enjoyed some wintery fun after last week's Snowmaggedon!

Clubs - Marion Sibs at MCBD   

Miss Emily and Miss Paige with Marion Sibs stopped in to speak with our Viking Volunteers and Inclusivity Ambassadors. They discussed volunteer opportunities with the Marion County Board of Disabilities. The students also learned about Marion Sibs and how the program supports siblings who have brothers or sisters with disabilities.    

    

School Fees

School fees for the upcoming year are $40. Online payment can be completed through MySchoolBucks. You may also pay in cash or checks (payable to River Valley) in the front office. If you feel you qualify for free or reduced fees, please be sure to fill out the portion in your Final Forms regarding the free and reduced program. We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter. 

You may see a fee for the Chromebook Insurance - this is an OPTIONAL fee if you choose to select the insurance. If you do not wish to purchase this insurance, the fee will drop off in October. You may opt-in later, however, the device must be inspected and in good working order to gain coverage. 

Free Breakfast and Lunch

We are thrilled to announce that free breakfast and lunch will continue to be provided for all students this school year! This initiative helps ensure that every student has access to nutritious meals, supporting their learning and well-being.
